Southern Great Barrier Reef covers the reef systems accessible from Bundaberg, Gladstone, and Rockhampton. Heron Island is the primary destination; Lady Musgrave Island is the most accessible for day-snorkeling. The southern reef is less visited than Cairns but the coral coverage is comparable.
